It’s important for us to get the customer’s signature when they use a credit card. However the paper receipts we have been having them sign fade more quickly than they used to, and becomes useless to defend against future fraud claims.
Therefore we want the customers to all sign the terminal screen from now on. You can always print a paper receipt if they want one.
When tapping a credit card on the terminal to pay, sometimes the signature screen gets bypassed. So we can no longer allow customers to tap their cards on the terminal. They must insert chip cards to pay. Or you can take their card from them and insert it yourself. (No swiping of cards is allowed. If the chip won’t read, they can’t use that credit card.)
If a customer somehow taps anyway, if the option does appear to sign on the terminal, then do so. If it only has the option to print the receipt, do that and have them sign it. That’s better than nothing.
