Links, Removal of

When we buy a pre-owned watch for stock that has removable links, for example Rolex watches, Inventory will size the bracelet to a normal size wrist and store the extra links. We can make use of them to size other pre-owned watches for bigger wrists or for watches that we buy that are short of the normal number of links. We have to pay a lot to buy individual links if we have none of our own.

It should be done in inventory before the watch goes into the case but anyone who notices extra links in a pre-owned watch should get them removed. The links should be sent to inventory to be accounted for as they do have a value.

In the event a pre-owned watch gets sold and needs to have links removed to fit it, the extra links should be kept if at all possible and not offered to the customer. The customer just wants a watch that fits, and will put any extra links that aren’t needed in some storage box or drawer and end up losing them. If we keep them here we will have the links to sell to those customers that need oversized watch bracelets.

Having extra links always on hand ensures that we can always make a sale, no matter the size of the customer’s wrist. Obviously not having the links available to make the watch fit the prospective customer can lose or postpone a sale.

We do not remove links from memo or consignment watches; they are to stay intact as they are when we receive them.

We do not remove links from new watches! The watches are always sold with all the links and any that are removed to size the watch are put in a baggie or pouch and given back to the customer.
