Diamonds to be GIA Certified

We purchase a lot of diamonds off the street and through trade-ins. Many of these diamonds that we keep for stock are uncertified. It is optimum for the better quality diamonds that we keep for stock to have a GIA certificate, so that the customer can be assured that they are getting what they paid for, according to the most accurate grading lab in the industry.

Send all RBC/fancy shaped diamonds that are being kept for retail stock to get GIA certificates using the below parameters:

  • 0.50ct- 0.99ct: SI2 and higher, J color and higher
  • 1.00ct- 2.00ct: SI2 and higher, K color and higher
  • 2.00ct plus: SI2 and above, L color and higher

We will certify some 2.00ct+ larger diamonds that are I1 clarity depending on color and cut, so check with the COO on those.

This policy is to be used as a guideline. Currently the turnaround for GIA certificates is quick at less than 2 weeks. There may be times when GIA is taking a few months to return diamonds for certification; in that case, consult the COO about whether or not we should get certificates for certain diamonds. It is sometimes worth the rush GIA fee to get larger diamonds back within a week so they can be put out for sale, so check with the COO about larger stones as well.
