Card Acceptance Procedures:
- Verify that the Customer is the Card member by checking ID.
- Verify the Card’s valid date. It may not be used after the last day of the expiry month embossed on the front of the card.
- Match the embossed number on the front of the Card to the number on the back of the Card and the terminal receipt.
- Insert the chip end of the card into the terminal. If the chip is unreadable, we cannot accept that card for payment. Do NOT manually key the transaction.
- Obtain the authorization, and have the customer sign the terminal.
- Compare the Customer’s signature on the terminal receipt with the signature on the back of the Card.
- Compare the name that prints out on the terminal receipt to the name embossed on the front of the Card.
If you need to call for an authorization, dial American Express at 800-528-2121 and provide them with the following:
The 10-digit Service Establishment number:
- SD: 498781720889
- SB: 498781721887
- SDGL: 498781723883
Card Not Present Acceptance Procedure:
- Obtain the following information from the customer over the phone:
- Card members’ name as it appears on the Card
- Card account number
- Expiration date on the Card
- Card Identification (CID) number, which is the 4-digit number printed on the face of all American Express Cards above the card number
- This information should never be obtained or shared via email. If a customer emails you their credit card information please notify the IT department right away by emailing help@Leohamel.com.
- Get the billing address. Address verification must be done when merchandise is to be shipped.
- Get the billing address phone number and another number where the customer can be reached.
- Obtain Address verification by calling American Express Authorizations at 800-528-2121 and providing them with the information in Step 1 above.
- Obtain transaction authorization by key-entering the information into the credit card terminal as it is prompted. If you can’t use the terminal to obtain an authorization, call American Express Authorizations and provide them with the information in Step 1, the 10-digit Service Establishment number (SD: 498781720889; SB: 498781721887; SDGL: 498781723883), and the total dollar amount of the transaction.
- Shred the information obtained in Step 1. This information cannot be stored or saved anywhere including, but not limited to BusinessMind, email, K and/or U drive, secure password files, etc.
Additionally, if a customer places a phone/internet order and wants to pick up their goods, be sure to let them know that their card needs to be present when they come to pick up their goods.
Reducing Fraud and Charge back Risk
We only ship to the billing address. If the customer wants it shipped to a different address, they must contact American Express and have that address added to their account.
If you are suspicious of anything, ask them to send a utility bill with the customer’s name and address on it.
