American Express Traveler’s Checks

Look for these things to verify authenticity of American Express Traveler’s Checks:

1. The words “AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS CHECKS” across the front are raised slightly.
2. The denomination mark on the left hand side of the back ($100, $50, etc.) will smear with a wet thumb. The one on the right will not.
3. Have the customer countersign while you watch.
4. Check I.D. and write their drivers license number on the invoice.
5. Call this number to verify the validity of the serial numbers on the check: 1 (800) 221-7282.
6. Look for the exact place that the customer must sign the checks. There are two places that the customer signs – once when they buy the checks and once when they use the checks. And there is a place for them to fill in our company name. Be sure they don’t sign in the wrong place or the check is no good!
