I have always maintained good relations and PR* with the public, our suppliers and friends of the company by writing letters.
Letters have proven to increase our sales when we write to customers, but they can also enhance our reputation and create positive feelings with all those connected with our company, including customers, suppliers, ad people, etc.
So when you have contact with anyone, it can only help the company to write a follow up letter or card.
Example: A past customer comes in to ask a question about their son’s $5 rubber watch, buys nothing and doesn’t even express any interest in anything new. So you write an “It was great to see you” letter. The ad rep from San Diego magazine comes by to talk. You write a “Thanks for coming by and talking with me, your help is really appreciated” letter.
Any contact with any person justifies a follow up “thank you” type of note. And it wouldn’t hurt to throw in “Can I help you with anything?” occasionally.
