We Don’t Do Business with Minors

Minors (children under 18 years old) are not legally able to enter into a contract. Any contracts they do enter into are breakable at their whim.

For example, a minor can buy a car, take it out and wreck it totally, bring the steering wheel back to the dealer and demand their money back. And they would get it, too!

What this means for us is that we don’t buy from minors. The phrase “all buys final” is meaningless in a deal with a minor; he or she can come back days or weeks later to undo the deal and we’d have to give back the merchandise (and I’m not sure we could get our money back in that case). However, the minor child can bring in an adult to make the sale to us, and in that case, the buy slip and check must be written to the adult; the transaction is with the adult, not with the child.

Do not spend time calculating buy values for minors. Ask them politely to return with an adult and then we will be glad to assist them with any sale of merchandise. We also want to avoid any possibility of fraud. Children can be grifters, too!

This is what the new provisional and under 21 driver license/ID cards look like. They are oriented vertically rather than horizontally in order to really stand out from the over 21 cards. Note that the years in which the person will turn 18 and 21 are highlighted.
