When taking in trade-ins of merchandise purchased here previously, ALWAYS, repeat ALWAYS, look up what the person actually paid for the item.
NEVER, repeat NEVER:
- Take their word (they always, always, always, repeat ALWAYS remember more than they actually paid.
- Rely on your own or anyone else’s memory.
- Guess what it should have sold for.
ALWAYS:
- Ask for their copy of the sales invoice.
- Look up the sale on the computer in customer notes.
- Or find the actual invoice.
Whether finding the invoice or not, the trade-in value is “What Inventory or the Estate buyer would pay for it in cash today”.
