Security codes and keys are issued on a basis of need. Not every employee will have a security code or key. Some security codes do not disarm all alarm components; yours will disarm the areas that you might need access to. Not all keys will open all doors in the building; yours will open the areas that you need to access.
Security codes are strictly confidential and are not to be shared with anyone else under any circumstances except dire emergency. If a code is shared during an actual emergency, that code must be deleted and a new code issued.
Keys are not to be shared with anyone else under any circumstances except dire emergency, and then must be retrieved immediately upon handling the emergency situation.
It has been known to happen that criminals can call employees and pose as the alarm company to try to get the password. If you are one of us who has an alarm system password, be aware of this ploy. Never give out the password unless YOU called the alarm company.
If you are not one of us who has the password and you get a call from someone asking for it, don’t try to get the password for them, just tell them that the appropriate person here will call them back at SDA.
SDA will usually ask for the password when they are calling us about an alarm event. In that case tell the person you will call them right back with the password. Then be sure to call the regular SDA number, not the number of the person who just called you!
If you are here at the store and SDA calls you here in response to an alarm event that just happened, then you can give them the password.
Also, if you have caller ID at home and that shows SDA Security is calling, then you can give them the password.
However, if SDA calls you at home or anywhere else and you don’t have caller ID, then don’t give out the password and tell them you will call them right back. Tell them not to send the police and that you will call them right back.
