Ring Sizing

If a customer buys a ring from us then typically we will size the ring one or two sizes at no charge as long as it’s a standard ring sizing. If it is a time consuming or complicated ring sizing, then Repair makes the call about whether there should be an additional charge.

If it is not an easy repair we should:

  1. Order the ring in their size when possible, or
  2. Charge the customer for the ring sizing, or
  3. Charge the salesperson for the ring sizing by taking the price of the repair off the selling price of the ring purchased. (This could put the sale under minimum so it is best to have the customer pay for the sizing).

RING SIZING IS NEVER INCLUDED ON SALE OR DISCOUNTED NEW MERCHANDISE UNLESS APPROVED BY THE REPAIR MANAGER OR SALES MANAGER. Our vintage rings have a built in adjusted to cover the cost of ring sizing so discounted vintage rings are ok to size for free as long as they are reasonable. If the repair will be complicated, then Repair will make the call about whether there should be an additional charge.

If the customer bought it here (bought, as in the past) and it was never sized the above applies if it is brought in within 60 days.

If the customer bought it here (bought, as in the past) and it was sized once already but they have shrunk or grown then we charge for the second sizing.

If the customer bought it somewhere else then we charge for the sizing.

The basic rule is REPAIR MAKES THE CALL so it is best to always check with Repair first if there any questions.

You must give Repair all the data so that they can make an informed decision. To just run in and say “We have to not charge them because they are a really good customer!!!” is not all the data.

Imagine the Repair Manager running to you and saying, “I need you to sell this ring to the customer for no profit and no commission because they are a really good customer.” You would want more data. If it were Lisa, she would be yelling, “Oh HELL NO!”

STONE SETTING

The same rules apply to stone setting. REPAIR MAKES THE CALL using the same parameters as above.

If it is an easy set, then it will be included most of the time BUT CHECK WITH THE REPAIR MANAGER FIRST.

If a customer bought a ring somewhere else but buys a diamond here we should generally charge for sizing and setting but again REPAIR MAKES THE CALL.
