Restocking Fee

Now that we give away a free ring sizing when the customer purchases a ring from us, we must charge them a restocking fee in order to get the ring back to a standard size 6 – 6 ½ if not already so.

If the customer ends up returning the ring, use the standard pricing guide to see what we would normally charge to size a ring back down or up. Charge the customer the full amount.

On the invoice this would be done by first returning the item, then as a separate line item charge them a fee for resizing the piece. The balance would be what they would receive back.

This would also hold true for other things we do for free in order to make the sale or as part of the sale. Such as adjusting a pendant to fit on a chain or setting their diamond into a mounting that didn’t need to be sized but we did set the diamond, however now we have a head that would need to be replaced when the customer’s diamond is pulled back out. Or maybe even having to do a light refinish on a watch the customer scratched up.

The restocking fee could be on anything to get that piece of merchandise back into a condition to be able to sell again, as well as recovering any costs incurred not charged for to make the sale originally.

All exchanges and returns are subject to a restocking fee. The amount charged will need to be determined at the time of the return by repair or inventory. The item is returned at the price sold and restocking fee charged. The item is returned and the restocking fee is charged. The credit received by the customer will be the return minus the fees.
