Police and Others with Guns

If I were a crook wanting to rob a jewelry store, I couldn’t think of a safer way to get in the store than to dress up as a San Diego Police Officer, California Highway Patrol, or a Brinks delivery guy. Think about it. These are people who we welcome with open arms YET THEY ARE ARMED WITH GUNS AND BULLET-PROOF VESTS. Would you let a guy walk in without question if he was carrying a shotgun?

My point here is that when a Brinks guy or any other law enforcement personnel comes in, we need to be on alert until we confirm they are who they say they are. Everything a cop wears can be ordered by mail except their badge and personal ID. Since we are a jewelry store, it is perfectly acceptable to ask for their ID and match it to the badge. Also, someone can look outside to see if there is a police car, motorcycle, or delivery truck – these are harder to fake.

From this point forward I expect everyone to be careful with these types and use usual safety precautions.
