Phone Calls to Collect Special Events Dates

From time to time, we need to have an all-hands phone call campaign to boost business in general. This means that we ask all employees, with a few exceptions (bench jewelers for example), to make a number of phone calls to customers in our database. Just as when we run ads in publications, the outflow of communication to our customers in the form of phone calls brings us inflow from them in the form of bodies in the shop and increased revenue. Phone calls are actually one of the best methods of outflow and bring us a great return.

The most effective way to make calls is to have a purpose for the call. Calling to ask for birthday and anniversary dates is one good purpose that can be used anytime.

Calling to collect birthday and anniversary dates

We collect birthday and anniversary dates from our customers so that we can send a reminder and a gift card. We built our business on personal relationships and this is a unique service that we offer to our customers to help them celebrate their special events and give (or get) a great gift.

  1. Pull up a customer list in Business Mind (which list will depend on what we are promoting)
  2. Go to the first screen which is personal info and click on the word special. If the customer does not have anything in that field call them and say….

Hi! My name is_________ and I am calling from Leo Hamel Fine Jewelers. We are updating our files and I noticed that your birthday and anniversary dates are not in your file. I would love to send you a gift card to help you celebrate your special occasions when they approach. What is…..

    • Your Birthdate?
    • Your Anniversary Date?
    • Your Spouse’s Birthdate?
    • Any other important occasions you’d like me to send a reminder for?

If any of these dates are coming up soon, ask if one of our sales associates can help them with a gift idea, and get a salesperson on the phone.

If you can only leave a message then back the message up with a letter.

If their special dates are listed and if one is coming up, call their spouse and ask if we can assist them to find a special gift for their occasion. Remind them of what they purchased here before and suggest something to complement it. If they show some interest, turn the call over to a salesperson so they can make it happen.
