It has been long supposed that we are losing business by not being open to buy on Mondays, so we are starting a trial of having the Old Town buying office open on Mondays to see how it works out.
Monday hours and breaks follow the remote office procedure. Hours are 9:30am – 6pm, with allowance to close the office for lunch and breaks. Tuesday – Friday hours follow the normal Old Town schedule of 10am – 6pm. A note saying what time you will be back must be put on the door anytime you leave the buy office to use the restroom, go downstairs, take a break, etc., since you may not hear the doorbell or be able to get to the door before the customer leaves.
There will several others on call to fill in for sick leave or PTO. Follow the normal policy for calling in sick or having PTO approved. The buying manager will be the primary back up in case of sick leave.
Company recognized holidays for closure are Thanksgiving, Christmas, Fourth of July, New Year’s Day, and Labor Day. The store will remain open on all other holidays.
Most dealers will be available on Monday. Maggie and Henry will make efforts to be available for special pricing needs. However, the reality is that the buyer will be largely independent on Mondays and will need to operate with minimal pricing assistance.
The buyer will have access to the safe near the buy office. The safe will be converted to an interior drop safe. The buyer will follow the same procedure for the remote offices by dropping all finished buys and storing larger buys in the upper shelves of the safe.
Contractors will need to be let into the building on certain occasions. They buyer will be expected to help with this. In the case of contractors requiring help that would cause distraction to buying, another employee will be scheduled to handle the contractor.
Deliveries will not be accepted on Mondays, as they would cause a distraction from buying. We will post a sign at the door letting delivery persons know that we cannot accept deliveries on Mondays
Other employees will occasionally be present on Mondays doing make up time or other work.
No retail or repair services will be offered on Monday. This includes repair take-in. There will be a sign at the door stating this clearly, but in the event that a client asks, the buyer must politely explain that the departments are closed on Mondays. The buyer should encourage clients may leave their information for a return call on Tuesday morning.
