Odd Shaped or Uncertain Metals

Odd-shaped, non-marked metals should not be purchased outright. They should be taken in for assay, and once we know what they really are, we can pay the customer.

Recently someone bought some wire that tested as platinum. But when refined turned out to be only about 6% PLATINUM. This wire also tested as platinum on Mystic’s expensive “ray gun” but was only a fraction of what the gun said it was.

Be aware of non-standard items like wire, melted blobs, etc. Standard items include chains, rings, coins, etc., but wire, lumps, and other chunks of metal should be considered “non-standard” and assayed FIRST.

Mystic also said someone brought in a screen a while back that tested as platinum but turned out to be platinum-plated Niobium (non-precious metal). This screen also tested as platinum when using Mystic’s “ray gun”.

Do NOT buy odd-shaped, non-marked metals outright. Only take in for assay then we pay the customer.
