Music at Work

Because our store employs many people of different musical tastes who are working in close proximity, it is necessary for us all to be considerate of those around us. Although many people enjoy listening to music while they work, to some it is a distraction. It can also be a barrier to clear communication over the phones and intercom.

Therefore, it is our policy that no music is allowed to be played on any computer, radio or other device within the open areas of the store with the following exceptions.

Music can be played QUIETLY in a closed area like Marketing, Repair Workshop, or Inventory, only as agreed upon by all inhabitants. Music played in offices is not to be loud enough to be heard from outside that office in the hallway and is not to be left on when the person who works in that office is out of the building. Music played in Repair is not to be loud enough to hear in the Break Room.

BREAK ROOM

No music is allowed to be played on any phone, tablet, radio, or other device in the break room in order to keep it a restful area for all employees to use. This includes any sound coming from your phone, including listening to voice mail messages. This also includes playing videos or games with sound, and watching anything on the TV with sound, unless of short duration and with the express permission of all employees in the area.

EARPHONES/EARBUDS

Most employees may not wear earphones or earbuds at work, because they prevent you from hearing the phone ring or other employees asking for your help. However, bench jewelers may wear earphones or earbuds only as long as they are still able to hear pages over the phone intercom and other employees asking for their help.

SHOWROOM

Music is played on the central system in the showroom at the direction and discretion of the Sales Manager, and in the buy office at the direction of a Buying Manager, to promote a relaxed and inviting environment for our customers. It is not to be played too loudly or be of a kind that will not be acceptable to a broad range of customers. Unacceptable types of music include rap, heavy metal, techno, grunge, etc.

INDIVIDUAL BUY OFFICES

Individual buy offices that have music playing are also subject to these rules.
