Invisible Set Jewelry

We WILL NOT size, solder or install new heads into any mountings with invisible set stones in-house. Any work to be done on a mounting with invisible set stones will be done by a manufacture that specializes in this.

This is due to the following:

Invisible set jewelry requires special mountings as well as specially cut stones. This type of setting requires special training to know how to properly seat the stones. If not done correctly the mounting as well as the stone can be damaged. Invisible setting is not commonly done by most jewelers because of the delicate nature of the mountings. If anything is damaged in these pieces while being worked on, they are very difficult to repair.

Any work that is done on an invisible set piece of jewelry can alter the stability of the piece greatly. These pieces should not be worked on at all unless by someone who is trained to do so. Rings should not be sized, heads should not be installed. The only thing that is okay is to set a stone in an existing head. Nothing should be done that requires for the piece to be heated up.

Even if a customer brings in an invisible set piece from another jeweler to be cleaned, it should be looked at VERY thoroughly. Any stones that seem crooked or loose should be brought to the customer’s attention immediately. In this instance the piece should not be cleaned at all. The chance of stones falling out of the mounting is huge and that is not something we can be held responsible for.

We do not commonly carry any invisible set jewelry lines. There are companies that specialize in invisible set jewelry that will assist us with any repairs or work that is necessary. When work needs to be performed on one of these pieces take it to the Director of Services and he or she will assist you. Customers need to be informed of the necessary procedures that will be taken to properly repair the piece.

Any concerns regarding invisible set jewelry should be directed to the Director of Services.
