As a growing company, we recognize the need to stay on the cutting edge of technology. This is one of the reasons we allow employees to have access to the Internet.
THE INTERNET IS INTENDED FOR BUSINESS USE ONLY. USE OF THE INTERNET FOR ANY NON-BUSINESS PURPOSE, SUCH AS PERSONAL COMMUNICATION OR SOLICITATION, PURCHASING PERSONAL GOODS OR SERVICES, GAMBLING AND DOWNLOADING FILES FOR PERSONAL USE, OR ANY USE THAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED ILLEGAL, IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
Our company’s policies against sexual and other types of harassment apply fully to Internet usage. Violations of those policies are not permitted and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including discharge. Therefore, employees are also prohibited from displaying, transmitting and/or downloading sexually explicit images, messages, ethnic slurs, racial epithets, or anything which could be construed as harassment or disparaging to others.
The company has set up a wi-fi network for employees to utilize to improve connection on their personal devices during break times. Use of the company wi-fi is a privilege and not a right. It is prohibited to download illegal movies and TV shows (ones that you do not have permission to download as you would with a paid subscription), or any use that would be considered illegal for any reason. It is also prohibited to display, transmit and/or download sexually explicit images, messages, ethnic slurs, racial epithets, or anything which could be construed as harassment or disparaging to others.
Any employee who wishes to access the company wi-fi must provide their device’s MAC ID to add to the whitelist to allow access while restricting access from anyone who doesn’t have permission. Employees who do not provide MAC IDs will not be allowed access to the company wi-fi. We do not guarantee the privacy of any information viewed or downloaded via the company internet or wi-fi.
Employees may not use for their home pages any web page that contains news stories, articles, blogs, posts, or anything that could induce the employee to start reading non-work-related material. MSN.com, SOSD.com, Facebook.com, Yahoo.com, are all examples of distracting home pages. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge can be customized to turn off the Content. For Edge, go to Page settings, scroll down to Content, select Content Off. It’s fine to use any search engine as long as you don’t personalize it by adding news feeds, articles, blogs, etc.
Since the company allows ordering in for lunch food, it is a permissible use to order lunch food delivery using the company computers.
Consistent with applicable federal and state law, the time you spend on the Internet WILL BE tracked through activity logs for business purposes. Any abnormal usage may be investigated thoroughly.
Violation of this policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including discharge. It is not permitted for any employee to delete the browsing history on a company computer. Deleting the browsing history will be considered presumed evidence of personal use of company computers and carry the same potential for disciplinary action up to and including termination.
It is not only the responsibility of the employee to conform to company policies and use e-mail and the Internet for work-related business only; it is also the responsibility of the employer to supervise these activities. It is the right and duty of Leo Hamel Fine Jewelers to monitor e-mail, internet, network, and any use of company-owned computer or other assets. Any e-mail, internet activity, or computer activity that you perform while working here is not confidential and there is no expectation of privacy. These activities are stored for the legal protection of the Company.
