Insurance Documentation vs. Appraisals

In order to avoid legal liability we will no longer do “appraisals” for our customers. What we will do instead is “insurance documentation.” Its purpose is to provide the customer’s insurance company with the information they need to insure the item(s) against loss.

Insurance documentation will include a complete description of the item with all serial numbers, the customer’s name and address, date of the purchase, and THE AMOUNT WE SOLD THE ITEM FOR. We do not “appraise” for more than the purchase price.

Make clear to the customer that we are not appraising the item’s “worth” but providing insurance documentation only. If they want a bona fide appraisal, we can refer them to Tom Underwood.

See the Insurance Documentation for Items Sold procedure for creating insurance documentation.
