In the Showroom – Salespeople, Assistants, Receptionist, and Lannie:
NO food of any kind, including snacks, can be eaten at your desk, in any showroom areas, or in view of the customers. It’s unprofessional and can get grease and crumbs on the jewelry and in the cases and on your keyboard, and make the showroom smell like food. Snacks should never be eaten in view of the customers. Snack packages should not be kept in view on top of your desk. Keep all snacks in your desk drawers or in the refrigerator downstairs.
This includes birthday cake or any birthday food that is brought in for someone’s birthday. If you can’t get downstairs or out to the gift wrap station to eat it, you may have someone set it aside for you to eat later. But it must be set aside in the break room downstairs on the table or in the refrigerator, not at your desk in the showroom.
One exception may be the smoothies that we sometimes order for lunch when we know it’s going to be busy in the showroom. Salespeople can take those to their desks.
No food or drink of any kind including water may be brought to the counter and eaten/drunk while showing merchandise to customers. Stanley type cups or other water containers are kept at your desk and sipped at your desk.
Lunch food will only be eaten in the break room or outside in back of the store during breaks. Lunch food would be anything that you’d eat for lunch, including sandwiches, hamburgers, salads, soup, frozen dinners, etc. Food that smells should never be brought upstairs.
THESE RESTRICTIONS INCLUDE THE TIMES BEFORE WE ARE OPEN AND AFTER WE CLOSE. IT IS IN EFFECT FROM 8:00AM ON TUESDAY THOUGH 5:30PM ON SATURDAY. If you are here off-hours, from after 5:31pm on Saturday to 8:00am on Tuesday, then food may be eaten anywhere except in the showroom. All food waste must be discarded in the trash in the break room before you leave the premises.
Food that is stored in the refrigerator, freezer, or cabinets in the break room must be labeled with a name and date. The refrigerator is cleaned out every Saturday at 2:30pm and any leftover food older than 3 days or anything without a name and date will be thrown out. Pre-packaged food with an expiration date will be thrown out on or after its expiration date and must also be labeled with a name and date.
We do allow birthday cake to be shared upstairs at the gift wrap station, and that can be taken to your desk to eat, except in the showroom or OT buy offices (because you don’t know when a customer might appear, and then you are caught with food on your desk). Birthday food such as pizza or nachos can only be eaten in the break room downstairs.
Snacks (but not lunch food) can be eaten at your desk if they are not too messy or smelly and do not spill or get on paperwork or keyboards. You can also take one of your breaks to have a quick snack in the break room or outside.
NO lunch food of any kind can be eaten at your desk, in any buy office areas, or in view of the customers. Snacks should never be eaten in view of the customers. Snack or food packages should not be kept in view on top of your desk. Keep all food and snacks in your desk drawers or in a storage area away from the customer service areas. Food that has a smell should never be left out or eaten in any areas where customers are serviced, whether or not it is kept out of sight.

Food or snacks are not to be eaten in the conference room except on special pre-approved occasions, such as when vendors bring in lunch for the executives or employees. We may also set up snacks in the conference room on occasion for salespeople to eat in there when it’s going to be extra busy in the showroom.
Snacks and treats that are given to us by vendors may be displayed on top of the shelving next to the cash box as long as it has no smell. It is not to be carried into the showroom to eat.
Do not discard of any food in the wastebaskets at your desks. Food in wastebaskets can smell up the room, and attract ants and mice. Food waste can only be discarded in the trash barrels in the kitchen, or the trash barrels by the mailboxes, as those are emptied frequently.
