Extended warranties are sometimes used to help close a sale.
If this is done by a salesperson, it must be written on the receipt and notes must be made in the customers file so it can be seen by all.
If the customer brings the item in and it is under the salesperson’s “extended warranty” this must be noted on the repair slip. If this is not noted on the slip the repair dept. might contact the customer with an estimate. Doing this would upset the customer when they are thinking the repair is under warranty and free.
If a customer does state that they have an extended warranty this should be verified with the salesperson before proceeding with any of the work. As we all know customers can sometimes remember what is most advantageous to them! It may be necessary for the salesperson to contact the customer to review the “extended warranty” with them to clarify.
