Leo Hamel Fine Jewelers Policy Letter

Employees Don’t Buy from Customers

There may arise occasions especially when engaged in buying off the street when a customer proffers for sale merchandise that the store and the owners don’t normally buy. The employee may be tempted to buy this merchandise in a “side deal” for their own use or resale. This presents an obvious conflict of interest for anyone employed by our company. The line between what the store wants to buy and what ti doesn’t can be blurred, especially if self-interest in involved.

There are also situations where purchasing certain items is illegal, and it could present a liability for the company it any of our employees are involved in such transactions even on the side.

Therefore it is company policy that no employee may purchase anything from any customer of the store under any circumstances whether at work or after work. “Customer” includes anyone who called, emailed, came in or otherwise contacted our store about doing business, whether or not any business was transacted. “Anything” includes anything whether related to jewelry or watches or not related. Examples would be cars, guns, art, antiques, collectibles, etc.

If you have a circumstance that you believe is not covered by this policy that involves any kind of transaction with a customer, please CSW to the President for permission to conduct the transaction.
