Employee of the Week, Month and Year

Our pilot program of Employee of the Month is going well, so I am going to expand it to include Employee of the Week and Employee of the Year.

Guidelines

Employee of the Week is warranted when an employee does something exceptional that week. I will choose this candidate based on the EOTW submissions. If I don’t get any submissions in any week, no one will be awarded Employee of the Week.

Employee of the Month is warranted when the employee is constantly exceptional. They may or may not have been employee of the week in that month. This candidate will be selected at the Executive Meeting we have every Friday in the OT store. There can be up to two Employees of the Month.

Employee of the Year is selected by a secret formula. Likely the EOTY will be one of the EOTM.

Who Can Win

An employee can win any of these awards more than once. For example, a person could be Employee of the Week two weeks in a row.

Any employee can recommend any other employee for Employee of the Week or Month. To recommend someone for either of these awards, submit a CSW by email or in writing. Your submission must include an explanation of what that employee did that you considered so exceptional that it should be recognized and rewarded.

Exceptional

  • They are self-correcting; when they make a mistake, they learn from it, take precautions that it won’t happen again and they don’t do it again. They would even make a point to let others know of their error so they won’t fall into it.
  • They can be corrected without being defensive.
  • They are self-motivating; they don’t need to be told to do their job. They don’t need to be told to do their job well. They take pride in doing a good job all the time and try to do a better job all the time.
  • They are self-improving; they take steps to better themselves at what they do.
  • They contain the problems in their area and don’t let them spread all over.
  • They don’t complain and whine; if something is wrong they take action to FIX it, not complain about it.
  • They don’t need to be told they are doing well as the simple act of doing well is satisfaction in itself.
  • They improve their area pf responsibility constantly and ask for, or take on more responsibility on a regular basis.
  • If they see something wrong they try to fix it or they report it to the proper person so that it can get fixed.
  • They don’t ignore problems; they take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • They communicate openly and are honest.

If you do these things you are either already there or on your way. If you can’t see yourself doing all these personally, please see me. I have something for you.

A Viewpoint to Consider

If you spend your time worrying or wondering about what the company can do for you, or what you can get out of a job, you will struggle to be exceptional. If you think about the company and what else you can do for it, you will never be without a job and you will always be rewarded. The latter type of person is probably only found in 10% of the population and are the most sought-after employees.

Don’t be bashful in recommending your fellows. But be honest about it as well. You can recommend someone more than once especially if they do great things often.
