Diamond Measurements to be on Stone Paper

All loose diamonds should have their measurements on the stone paper, this includes the minimum and maximum width and depth on rounds; length, width and depth on fancies.

Reasons:

  1. When showing more than one similar cut and quality stone, they can become confused. Measurements are the easiest and fastest way to identify a stone. Weight is NOT good when showing three 1.00 carat or 1.01 carat or .99 carat diamonds.
  2. You can tell if the cut is good from the outside of the stone paper via depth percentage.

To figure depth percentage, take the minimum and maximum diameter (rounds are never perfectly round) and average that number. Divide depth INTO average diameter – which gives you the depth percentage.

On fancies, take the width (not length!) and divide depth INTO width. On square stones take the smallest side (rarely are they perfect squares) as the width.
