Contrators & Repair People

Do not let contractors service any of our buildings or equipment without prior notification from someone (typically the Controller or Estates Maintenance). If someone shows up or you see someone working on something without notice, please stop them.

Get their company info, badge info, name of their supervisor and relay that over to the Controller. She will verify what they’re doing and let you know if they can proceed.

Anytime a contractor (or repair person) is hired to do work inside our store, he or she is not to be left alone to wander about. An employee must accompany the contractor wherever they go inside our store, and sit there while the work or repair is completed, ensuring the contractor doesn’t wander around the store alone.

One exception is if the contractor is brought in while we are closed. How that is handled depends on where the contractor is working. If the contractor is working in the showroom and has no access to any other areas of the building, the employee can let the contractor into the building, leave, and then return to lock up once the work is done.

If the contractor will have access to all areas of the store, the employee must stay while the work is performed and keep an eye on where the workers are and what they are doing. We do have items in the store that are valuable other than the jewelry.

Another exception is if the contractor is well known to the CEO. Examples would be Hamel’s Refrigeration and Fred Ruane.
