Computers, Where We Save Things

Please do not save any work product (files, documents, emails, weblinks, etc.) in a folder with just your name on it. All work product belongs to LHFJ and needs to be clearly labeled so that other people can find it. For example, if you are working on the arrangement of monkeys in the zoo, don’t save the files or documents in a folder called “Robin.” Save them in a folder called “Zoo” in a subfolder called “Monkeys.”

ONE EXCEPTION – YOUR STATS MIGHT BE ON A SPREADSHEET WITH JUST YOUR NAME AND THE YEAR ON IT. That’s fine.

ALWAYS include the appropriate year in your file names and folders, and on documents and tab labels in excel spreadsheets. This company has been going for 42 years and it might be obvious to you today that the spreadsheet is about 2020, but by 2023, we will have no idea.

Nothing should ever be saved just to K: (or M: either) (unless by IT on purpose and temporarily). Always save it in the appropriate subfolder for the department to which it pertains – Marketing, Accounting, HR, Estates Maintenance, etc.

What to keep on your U drive:

  • Ideas you have about future projects not yet in process
  • Reminders of things you need to do
  • Contacts that may or may not be of any value to the company, with whom we do not yet do business

What to keep on the K or M drive:

  • Anything that anyone else doing your job would need to have
  • Anything that any other department needs to be able to see
  • Anything that Leo, Robin, or Maggie might want to look into (stats, etc.)

Anything that you save on any company computer on any drive becomes the property of Leo Hamel Fine Jewelers and there is no expectation of privacy. Company executives can examine all of your folders at any time.
