Everyone likes to be acknowledged for the things that they do right, and rewarding good behavior tends to cause more good behavior. We like to acknowledge whenever we notice that our coworkers have done something that makes our jobs easier and contributes to the success of the company, or that a coworker is doing his or her job extremely well.
You should publically recognize your coworkers for doing good things at any time. Simply send an email to ALL with “Commendation” in the subject line, and state who you are commending, and why.
You can also choose to send a commendation only to the person’s supervisor, or to the owners of the company, as you feel it is appropriate.
HR will save these commendations in the employee’s personnel file.
Here’s an example of a commendation that someone sent.
A lady came in today and sold her Patek. She brought it in a few years ago for repair and Carlito helped her. The movement had to be replaced and the dial refinished.
She went on about how kind and helpful Carlito was to her and that’s why she brought it back to us to sell. Carlito is always professional and even when customers are difficult, he still shines through!
Feel free to write commendations often, any time that you see someone doing anything worth commending!
