Closing Duties Assigned: Old Town

There are several things that need to be done nightly at closing. These closing duties will be assigned, and it is the responsibility of those assigned to see that the following duties are handled each night before leaving.

  • At 6:00pm (5:00pm on Saturdays) turn “closed” sign around.
  • Put voice mail on at 6:00pm (5:00pm on Saturdays).
  • Turn steamer and ultrasonic off and lights out in buffing and jeweler’s rooms.
  • Ensure that no merchandise is left out in jeweler’s rooms.
  • Make sure that blinds in conference room and CFO’s office are open and the lights are on.
  • See that no merchandise is left out in cases.
  • Check salespeople’s desktops and drawers for merchandise.
  • Turn off sound systems in showroom and buy office.
  • Check that buy office safe is locked.
  • Lock diamond boxes in the inventory safe.
  • Lock big safes.
  • Close buy door and sales door into back offices.
  • Ensure that shipping and inventory doors are closed and locked.
  • Turn off all computers. Everyone does their own.
  • Make sure that extra lights, radios, fans, heaters, are all off. Everyone does their own.
  • Lock deadbolt on buy office door.
  • Turn red/green sign to red.
  • Turn off lights in buy office.
  • Close doors to Marketing.
  • Ensure no food is left out in the kitchen and take all trash out.
  • Turn off coffee pot.
  • Set the alarm.
  • Turn off lights in break room as you exit.

Please set these in your mind, make them your responsibility, and do them promptly so you don’t cause anyone else to have to remind you! This also means, if you need/want to leave early one night, it’s your responsibility to turn your hat over to someone for the night.

It is the responsibility of all executives to ensure that all closing duties have been performed before setting the alarm and leaving the building. Ultimately, the last person out who sets the alarm is the single person responsible for everything having been verified.
