Christmas Bonus

One year after Christmas bonuses were given, only 2 or 3 people said “Thank you.”

What it showed me was that people were considering the bonus as part of their pay. This is not what a bonus is. Webster says:

bo·nus n., pl. bo·nus·es.

  1. Something given or paid in addition to what is usual or expected.
  2. An extra dividend paid out of accumulated profits.

So you see, the key words are “in addition to what is usual” and “out of accumulated profits.” Another way to look at it is if we, as a group, haven’t done things “in addition to what is usual” we won’t have much in the way of “accumulated profits.”

So this is the new plan. From now on, and including this year, bonuses will be paid at Christmas based on a TOP SECRET formula devised by me. This formula will mostly take into account how much I observe your individual contribution to your post and the company as a whole. This will allow even a new person to get a nice bonus if they are seen to be really adding value to the company. This is also different in that it will be based on the “felt” contribution, meaning what we can see and feel, aside from your post position. Obviously if your stats suck, no amount of kissing up or smiley faces drawn on the bathroom walls will help.

So that is the plan. Any questions should be directed to me in writing.
